New York, 22 Aug — Emerging technologies have the potential to accelerate sustainable development and transform the lives of millions of poor and vulnerable people. However, when it comes to adopting digital technologies at scale for the benefit of these populations, the challenges and concerns are big. To spearhead the conversation on the breakthrough digital ideas that could exponentially help in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNDP today launched an online global dialogue.

Today, many governments are considering digital technologies as a priority and how they can be deployed to improve peoples’ lives. The consultation site through interactive dialogue provides an opportunity for UNDP’s donors, development partners, stakeholders, researchers and citizens of the world interested in digital technology, to present ideas on how technology can be applied to provide solutions to current development challenges in their countries and be replicated globally.

“Many technologies are already being used throughout various programmes and initiatives in UNDP in some form. The idea of the consultation is to bring more voices to help address some of the challenges and solutions that digital technology has in delivering better results in the countries and communities in which UNDP works,” says Adriana Dinu, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support.

Major findings of the interactive dialogue will be presented at UNDP’s high level side event during the 74th UN General Assembly. UNDP has already embarked on a Digital Strategy that sets out the vision for the evolution of the organisation over the next three years, responding to a changing digital development landscape and the evolving needs of its partners.
