This is the second Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) Progress Report published by the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the United Nations Country Team. The eight Goals stem from the Millennium Declaration that was signed by Heads of States, including the President of the Republic of Zambia, at the United Nations in New York in 2000, in which the world agreed to achieve tangible progress n key development areas by 2015. The MDGs are about halving extreme poverty and hunger; achieving universal primary education for both girls and boys; empowering women; reducing underfive mortality and maternal mortality by two-thirds and three-quarters, respectively; reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS and other major diseases; ensuring environmental sustainability; and developing a global partnership for development.
