Lusaka, Zambia - 13 August, 2014: With significant achievements in life expectancy, education and Gross National Income (GNI) per capita in past years, Zambia has risen into the medium human development category, according to the UNDP 2014 Human Development Report, “Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience”.

Lusaka, Zambia, July 25 - Persistent vulnerability threatens human development, and unless it is systematically tackled by policies and social norms, progress will be neither equitable nor sustainable. This is the core premise of the 2014 Human Development Report (HDR) entitled “Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience”, launched yesterday by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tokyo, Japan.

Zambia Expands Access to Treatment for HIV

GENEVA – In partnership with Zambia, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria signed a US$156 million grant agreement that aims to ensure a secure supply of antiretroviral medicine to all those receiving HIV treatment. The new funding will also support work that gets 225,000 more people to start treatment over the next three years.

Livingstone - Zambia commemorated World Malaria Day on May 25th with the launch of the Zambia Zimbabwe cross border malaria initiative which seeks to harmonise policies and jointly coordinate malaria control interventions between the two countries. The initiativewas launched under the theme“Investing in the Future to Defeat Malaria.” Zambia and Zimbabwe share the Zambezi River, a long water body which forms the border between the two countries.
